About
Welcoming New Americans SLCE module provides students an excellent opportunity to learn about refugees and refugee policy. The community partner is Church World Service, a resettlement agency approved by the U.S. State Department. Participants will have the opportunity to directly engage with resettled refugees as well as advocacy efforts.
Activities will include:
Orientation

Debunking Myths social media campaign
Supporting refugee-friendly government policies
Debrief/Final Reflection

Project Plan
Participants will learn about issues and needs specific to refugee resettlement. Participants will become familiar with community partner, planned activities, and guidelines for this SLCE module.
Participants will assess resettlement needs with recently arrived refugee(s) and/or their CWS caseworker and develop a customized welcoming plan.
Participants will promote a refugee-friendly public policy on personal or professional social media platform including Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, Twitter, Reddit, or youtube.
Participants will host activities and gift table for resettled refugees on Saturday, November 13, 2021.
Participants will support an existing local, state, or federal policy initiative in solidarity with welcoming refugees in our society.
Participants will review their SLCE module experience and connect to their service-learning course(s).
